My 5th Year Plan.
After high school, I plan to become a pediatric nurse because I've always been interested in being involved in the medical field. I also work really well with kids, so I decided that pediatrics would be the best fit for me. My plan for after high school is attend a four year college to become a nurse. I have the opportunity to attend a four year college in Florida for free, if accepted. I want to apply to some schools in Florida and some here in Washington to see what will be the best fit for me next year. I also want to find out the schooling I will need to complete to be able to do the career I want to do.
I have enjoyed playing sports and being a part of a team in high school. This has helped me prepare for college and my life outside of high school by allowing me to interact with others and gain leadership skills. By being involved in sports, 4-H, FFA, and ASB, I have gained a lot of social skills as well as patients. I also have a job at IHOP as a server. I have been working there for about a year and a half. I love my job and the people I work with. Being able to make money and save money has taught me so much about finances and how to be an adult. Having good social skills and a strong work ethic, I feel like I am on the right path to preparing myself well for my future.
Since I want to be a pediatric nurse, I have chosen to job shadow a school nurse for my senior project. This will allow me to see other areas of nursing, as well as getting to see how to interact and help young kids. Doing this project will really help me prepare for my 5th year and for the rest of my future. I am also taking some extra classes that will help me get into better colleges and hopefully help me in my everyday life. I am also the senior class president and this allows me to become a better leader and someone that my fellow classmates, and the classes below me, look up to. The job I have is full time and it definitely keeps me busy and allows me to not have very much free time on my hands. I have grown up so much from having to work to make money, to buy what I need and want. With having a job, I had to open a bank account and I have learned how to handle money and how to write checks. These are life lessons that are very necessary.
With all of these activities in my life finally done and still being done today I still have many things to get myself ready for after high school. I am taking my SAT soon, so I can start to apply and show colleges my scores. I also have to complete my senior project and pass my presentation. I need to do some research on colleges to see what schools have the classes and requirements I need and want to pursue the career I hope to have. I want to go tour schools and talk to people to see what the highlights and lowlights are of the schools around me. With going to the schools that I plan to apply for I will know if that school has the classes and requirements needed to be a pediatric nurse. If there is a school that has everything I need for the first four years I hope attend that school. If I need attend a different school to continue my education I plan to do so. Deciding on what school attend is one of the most stressful things I think I have ever had to do because this will determine my entire future.
Preparing for my 5th year has been a long and stressful process. I know that once I achieve all of the goals that I have set for myself, I can get to the place I want to be. I am grateful to all of the people in my life that have pushed me to complete and go beyond the goals I have set for myself. If it wasn't for some of the experiences I have had in high school I wouldn't know what to do after I’m out of here. Being pushed to get good grades, pass the SAT with a high score, complete a senior project, and have a job really has been the turning points in my high school career. Just those few things have made a huge impact on my life. Those few things determine the type of person I am and the type of work I can do and how well I can do it. High school is an obstacle that is necessary to become successful in your life. I didn't know what the point of high school was until these past few years and how much it impacts your future.
